Walk into any traditional Kempo Karate Dojo, you will learn Combinations, a numbered set of self
defense techniques. You will also learn rank colored Kempos, more techniques. Then you will learn a
handful of Forms, which are a series of techniques strung together to be fluid. This is traditional Kempo
format. These techniques are learned and practiced over and over again until they are ingrained in your
muscle memory.
At Kempo Defense, we've taken these techniques and extracted from them the body mechanics and
dynamics that make these techniques work. We explain them to you and teach you how to properly
execute them, because these basic principles need to be understood to have a full understanding of
the fight science that is Kempo. Simply put, we want our students to be able to speak the language of
Kempo, not just a few sentences. There is a lot to be said for being traditional, and we are a traditional
school, but what sets us apart from other traditional schools is our progressive approach to teaching.
At most traditional schools, you do what the Sensei or Master tells you, with little or no explanation, and
without the ability to question why. At Kempo Defense, we love questions; they keep us sharp, and
they make our students well-informed. There are no hidden mysteries in Martial Arts; just questions that
have been left unanswered. So what will you learn, call it Kempo, call it fight science, call it anything you
like. The end result is that you will learn to simply, cleanly and absolutely end confrontation by any
means necessary utilizing the most conservative, most effective action.
