To Parents and Student,
In the weeks to follow, Sensei Bonnie and I will be
performing rank competency and confidence evaluations
in class. This is where we take the techniques that are
taught in the air and learn to put them to use in practical
application. We want to ensure that our students get the
most out of their training. They have worked hard and
tested well; they are all very competent. As Chief Instructor
at K.D.S., it is my responsibility to ensure that they are also
confident in their abilities. We will work with our students
and help them to make the necessary adjustments to tailor fit the techniques that they know
to their abilities, personal size and strength. I would be lying to you if I said that what works
for me as an individual, is what will work for everyone. That is why every student at K.D.S.
will be evaluated and taught the necessary adjustments. These adjustments are all part of the
martial arts educational journey for students. As time goes on and we grow in the arts, we
will learn our own strengths and weaknesses and be able to modify our training in order to
play to our strengths and avoid our weaknesses, but until that time it is our responsibility to
you.
