Kempo. See you in the movies!
At Kempo Defense Systems, we realize that no two students are alike. They have different
personalities, different expectations, they learn at their own pace. With our small class size
and low student to instructor ratio, your child gets the hands on training necessary to
comprehend what is being taught. Not only will your child become confident in his training,
KDS teaches our students to be competent. Anyone can teach a young person to hit, or kick,
at KDS, we teach self defense, situation awareness, age appropriate responses to the threats
they may encounter in the 21st Century. Our students learn to become strong, both morally
and physically. We teach them to temper that strength with kindness, compassion, and
tolerance. We help them to make the transition from preteen to teenager with the necessary
prerequisites to be leaders ~ not followers. While other kids struggle with identity, our
students know who and what they are... They are confident Martial Artists.

Sensei's Brian and Bonnie are not just Instructors, we're
parents and we have children in the local school system,
we understand the added stress that kids face every day.
The peer pressures, the bullies, these cause real damages
to a child's self esteem. It's heartbreaking and frustrating
for parents to deal with school administration that takes a
purely reactive response to acts of aggression towards
your child. Our classes deal with and are geared towards
helping your child overcome these obstacles. We help
them to realize their self worth, find the confidence to
stand up for themselves, and find their inner voice and
speak up in their own defense. Children fear verbal
altercations because they lack self confidence. We teach
them through self defense, that we need to use our words
to express our feelings toward our aggressors. We teach
them boundaries, and that it's unacceptable to let
someone else put their hands on them. We also teach the
social and moral implications of physical violence. Our
goal is not to make your child a bully, but rather to teach
them to walk away with confidence, and self esteem in
tact, for the right reasons. We also tech them that when
necessary, we sometimes need to hit back. This is a harsh
reality for your child, and a great responsibility for us as
instructors. This is why we temper their Martial Arts with
a complete understanding of necessary force through threat de-escalation verbal skills and if
necessary, as a last resort, physical contact with their aggressor. Our children grow up so fast, their
childhood should be a time filled with happiness, a time for them to develop into well adjusted young
adults. Children who are unable to defend themselves, whether it be a verbal or physical altercation,
are condemned to a life of pacifism, while children who are Martial Artists get to make that choice. It is
our job to guide and mentor them, so that when a situation arises, they have the necessary skill sets
to make the right choices.
It is my promise to the parents of my students, to always have their best interests at heart, to help
and encourage them to become scholars, and athletes. To teach them why we need to become
productive members of society, help mom and dad around the house, use discipline and self control,
how to listen and follow direction, and more importantly how to be heard and give direction. These
are all positive attributes that your child will be taught as a student at Kempo Defense Systems. We
are looking forward to seeing you in class.
